Builder's Caste of Korat
BCoK Caste and Standards
BCoK Council
Jeremiah NyteTarn – en’builder
Fury Chione
Within the BCoK there will be three levels of advancement: Apprentice, Journeyman & Master levels. Each level will require a month period of activity before the next level can be obtained.
-
Apprenticeship: The apprentice will be required to submit three logs of building, sending them into his / her Mentor, and the En’Builder of Korat. The logs will be sent to these to be approved. These logs ideally may be sent in one per week. At the end of the one mun month period of apprenticeship, if all logs are submitted and are reviewed and found to be satisfactorily to standards, the apprentice will be then promoted to Journeyman status.
*If an applicant is seeking to become registered as both a shipwright and builder, they must go through apprenticeship twice: once for shipwright and once for general builder. They may use the same mentor if that mentor is also registered as both. Otherwise, the applicant must find a mentor who specializes in that field.
-
Journeyman: The journeyman will be required to maintain active work in the building field for the period of one mun month, remaining in good standing with the BCoK. During this time a Journeyman may mentor one apprentice. At the end of this period, if the journeyman has satisfied these requirements, he / she will be promoted to the level of Master.
-
Master: The Master will be required to aide and hand down his / her knowledge to those who require the assistance. The Master at this point is the fountain of information that can and will feed the rest of the caste. To be a Master Builder one must take pride in one’s caste and pass on knowledge to future caste members.
Standards
-
As a member of the Caste of Builders, take pride in the work that you do; a pride deep and strong arising from your accomplishments.
-
As a member of the Caste of Builders, dedication to the craft is expected. Once a project is started, dedicate yourself to its successful completion and ensure every detail is done according to exact specifications.
-
Free women of the Caste of Builders should remember the physical limitations bestowed on them by nature, and not attempt to perform any heavy or exacting physical labor associated with building projects. To do so is seen as demeaning to both the woman and to the Caste. Activities such as interior design, small landscaping jobs, and fine woodworking are more suitable to a Free woman. However, as a Free woman she is free to own and/or oversee any Caste task as long as she is capable and knowledgeable of doing so and simply hire a crew to do the heavy labor.
-
As a member of the Caste, you have a responsibility to your Caste Brethren. A Builder shall always treat another Caste Brother or Sister with honor and devotion. This treatment extends to Caste Brethren of other Cities, as well as those of your own.
-
As a member of the Caste of Builders, you have a responsibility to place the good of the Caste before that of any single member. Any Builder found demeaning the Caste by their actions should be reported so that appropriate action can be taken to restore the integrity of the Caste. Actions such as cheating clients, using inferior materials to increase personal profit, and claiming association in another Caste are grounds for a member to be stripped of rank, or even expelled from the Caste (outcasting). Due to the fact that Caste is a primarily a matter of birth on Gor, and not a sign of occupation, Builders can engage in the activities and pursuits of other Castes, such as trade and shop keeping without demeaning the Caste. However, it is important that any such activity have a relationship to the core duties and skills of the Caste to avoid possible demeaning of the Caste. For example, a Builder in a small City might run a mill and sell lumber, or even act as a village Scribe if no other dweller can read or write.
-
While Builders are Builders are Builders, many opt to choose a specialty, or subclass to better define their activities. These typically include the following:
-
Infrastructure - roads, drainage, dams, tunnels and transportation, buildings and residences, Shipbuilders - Builders of ships, yards and docks,
-
Military - fortifications, weapon emplacements, weapons and outposts.
-
Communications - signaling planning and procedures.

OOC Rules:
1) In order to be licensed by BCoK, a character must satisfy one of the two book criteria of Caste Membership.
a. Be born into the caste.
b. Serve a trial period during which they show an aptitude for the caste and are recommended by a member of the caste in good standing.
2) All applicants must be at least 18 or older.
3) All applicants must be a sworn Citizen of Rive de Bois.
4) If your character is a restore/delete character you must inform the En’Builder.
5) IC or OOC bashing of another Korat builder may get your character expelled from the caste. You will be warned. After one warning, if the behavior continues, you will be expelled.
6) It is advisable to keep logs of all building projects if they are played out IC. If the project is not played out, it is best to keep logs of any and all communication between the builder and the client.
These rules may be added to or changed as situations arise.
* If a builder is already registered to one of the Gor Wide builders' castes, he or she need not go through the apprenticeship process. An already registered builder need only fill out an application and submit it with one log (either a new log or one sent to the Builders' Caste with whom the character is registered).
